'I think of myself as originally a classically trained musician, who somewhere along the way ditched Mozart for rock music! I had piano lessons from the age of seven, and later started playing percussion in orchestras as this was a better chance to play an instrument as part of a group. I also enjoyed this enough to take lessons, and a few years later I had Grade 8 on both piano and percussion.'

'In the meantime I also began learning the guitar. However, this wasn’t so much a conscious effort to realize an ambition, but more a distraction from my GCSEs! While my peers probably used to watch TV or go and play football during revision breaks, I found the perfect way to clear my head was to pick up my brother’s guitar and teach myself to play. It wasn’t until I went to uni that I first played in a rock band. After investing in a drum kit I did the whole student band thing, drumming mainly to original material but also to occasional covers of bands such as The Offspring and Stereophonics. For the next few years I continued playing music and jamming with mates, but it was generally rather casual and aimless……until, that is, I learned that a certain Queen tribute band were looking for a keyboard player. After seeing their first gig at The Loco and being suitably impressed, I was introduced to some of the band and things progressed from there.'

'Despite playing in various rock bands during and since uni, Stone Cold Queen is actually the first band I’ve played keyboards in, so it’s kind of a new experience for me.'
